The short version
Choose La Torre if you want a full resort feel — 21 pools, restaurants, plaza, padel, spa, tennis, walkable everything — with a beautiful, technical Nicklaus course as the main event. It suits families, mixed groups, and anyone who values the "somewhere to be" between rounds.
Choose Mar Menor Golf Resort if you're a golf-first group that prioritises a longer, more forgiving layout and a quieter residential setting. Fewer distractions, fewer amenities.
Or do what most of our guests do: stay at La Torre and play both. They're 15 minutes apart. Casa Sylvia is inside La Torre Golf Resort and set up for exactly this.

The resort experience
This is where La Torre pulls ahead for most guests. The resort is built like a small village: a proper central plaza with bars and restaurants, a supermarket, spa, tennis and padel courts, communal pools, and pedestrian streets that make it genuinely safe for kids. There's always somewhere to be at 6pm.
Mar Menor is more residential. There's a very good clubhouse and restaurant, but off the course it's quieter — fewer bars, fewer pools, less bustle. Perfect if that's what you're after; noticeably thinner if you're travelling with non-golfers.
Cost of a 5-night, 3-round trip (2 golfers, low season)
- Green fees — €165–225 per golfer (comparable at both resorts)
- Villa rental at Casa Sylvia (La Torre) — from €610 for the whole 3-bed house (5 nights at €100/night low season plus the €110 cleaning fee), sleeps 5
- Equivalent 3-bed rental at Mar Menor — from €790, though inventory is thinner
- Buggy hire — €35/round each
- Airport transfer from RMU — €55 each way
Villa pricing tracks each other closely. The real cost difference comes from food and drink: La Torre's on-resort restaurants mean you spend less time (and less fuel) driving out for dinner.
Family-friendly comparison
No contest — La Torre. Twenty-two pools, safe pedestrian streets, Michelin-recommended dining, a proper plaza with kids' spaces, and close proximity to Terra Natura zoo, Los Alcázares beaches, and Mar Menor watersports.
Verdict
If your group is 90%+ golf and you want quiet, Mar Menor is a solid pick. For any mixed group, family, or golfer who wants a real holiday around the golf, La Torre wins by a comfortable margin — and Casa Sylvia inside its gates is the easiest way to make the most of both courses in a single trip.
Frequently asked questions
Which resort has the better course, La Torre or Mar Menor?
They're both Jack Nicklaus Signature designs and both very good. La Torre is generally considered the tighter, more visually striking course with more elevation changes. Mar Menor is longer off the tee and slightly more forgiving — a good choice for higher handicaps.
Which resort is better for families vs golfers-only groups?
La Torre has communal pools, on-resort restaurants, padel courts, and a proper resort plaza — it works for families and golf groups equally well. Mar Menor is more compact and slightly more golf-focused, with less to do off the course.
Are green fees cheaper at one or the other?
Green fees are similar (typically €55–95 depending on season). Both offer discounts for stay-and-play packages, and both are included on the Polaris World multi-course pass that also covers Torre-Pacheco and Hacienda Riquelme.
How far apart are the two resorts?
About 15 minutes by car. Most guests who stay at La Torre play both courses on the same trip.
Can I stay at La Torre and still play Mar Menor Golf?
Yes — very common. Staying at La Torre gives you a full resort with more amenities and pools, while playing Mar Menor as a day trip. That's exactly what Casa Sylvia is set up for.
