Why Murcia for a golf holiday?
Murcia sits on Spain's Costa Cálida — the "warm coast" — and gets over 300 days of sunshine a year. It's less crowded than the Costa del Sol, cheaper for food and drink, and has a dense concentration of Nicklaus, Kramer and Molina golf courses, most inside gated resort communities. Flights from the UK run year round into either Murcia (RMU) or Alicante (ALC).
Golf at La Torre Golf Resort
La Torre is a Jack Nicklaus signature 18-hole course inside the same gated resort as Casa Sylvia. It's playable for mid-handicap golfers and enjoyable for low ones — undulating greens, bunkers, and a couple of memorable water holes. You can book tee times through the clubhouse when you arrive, or we're happy to help arrange them in advance.
- Jack Nicklaus signature 18-hole course
- Driving range, putting green, and clubhouse restaurant
- Clubs and buggies for hire on-site
- Other Polaris World courses within a short drive (Mar Menor, El Valle, Hacienda Riquelme)
What non-golfers do while you play
This is where Casa Sylvia's location really earns its keep. The resort has communal pools (Pool 16 is a short walk from the townhouse), padel and tennis, a spa, and quiet landscaped streets ideal for jogging or cycling. Off-resort you have Mar Menor beaches, Terra Natura zoo, boat trips from La Manga, and easy day trips to Cartagena and Murcia city.
Where you'll stay: Casa Sylvia
Instead of hotel rooms, book a full 3-bedroom townhouse for the group. Casa Sylvia sleeps 5, has a stocked kitchen, private terrace, aircon, fast WiFi, and is registered as a Vivienda de Uso Turístico (VV.MU10084-1). Booking direct saves you the 15–18% platform fees you'd pay on Airbnb, Vrbo or Booking.com.
Frequently asked questions
When is the best time to visit Murcia for golf?
March–June and September–November are the sweet spot: warm sun, dry days, and comfortable playing temperatures. July and August are hot (35°C+), which is great for pool time but tough for a full 18 holes — most golfers tee off early.
Is Murcia a good destination for families as well as golfers?
Yes — that's exactly why La Torre works so well. Golfers get a Jack Nicklaus course on-site while the rest of the family use the communal pools, padel and tennis courts, spa, and safe pedestrian streets. Nearby you also have Terra Natura zoo, Mar Menor beaches, and boat trips.
Which airport is best for a Murcia golf holiday?
Murcia International (RMU) is 20 minutes from La Torre and the most convenient. Alicante (ALC) is about an hour north and usually has more UK flight options. Both are easy.
Can we bring golf clubs on the flight?
Yes — Jet2, TUI, Ryanair, easyJet and BA all allow golf clubs as checked luggage for a modest fee. Booking as sports equipment in advance is cheaper than at the airport.
Do we need a car if we're staying at Casa Sylvia?
It's optional. Everything inside the resort is walkable or reachable by golf buggy. A car helps for supermarket runs, restaurants in Roldán, and beach days at Los Alcázares.
